Principe fondamental de la statique

Introduction :

Le cours précédent nous a appris à représenter de manière complète les actions qui s’exercent sur un système. Il nous restait néanmoins à évaluer ces actions.

Ici, nous nous intéresserons à un système au repos, ou en mouvement rectiligne uniforme, et nous pourrons appliquer le principe fondamental de la statique à des systèmes soumis à $2$, puis $3$ forces.
Ainsi découvrirons-nous une méthodologie pour résoudre un problème de statique.

Lois de la statique

Principe fondamental de la statique (PFS)

Soit un solide $S$ soumis aux forces $\vec F_{\tiny 1}$ (avec $B_{\tiny 1}$ son point d’application), $\vec F_{\tiny 2}$ (avec $B_{\tiny 2}$ son point d’application), …, $\vec F_n$ (avec $B_{n}$ son point d’application).
Soit un point $I$ quelconque, en lequel le moment de $\vec F_{\tiny 1}$ vaut $\vec M_{\tiny I} (\vec F_{\tiny 1})$, le moment de $\vec F_{\tiny 2}$ vaut $\vec M_{\tiny I} (\vec F_{\tiny 2})$, …, le moment de $\vec F_n$ vaut $\vec M_{\tiny I} (\vec F_n)$.

Dans un référentiel galiléen, si $S$ est au repos ou en mouvement rectiligne uniforme, alors la somme des forces extérieures exercées sur $S$ est nulle :

Si l’on considère que le plongeoir est au repos, alors, d’après le PFS, et plus particulièrement le théorème de la résultante statique :

Principe des actions réciproques

Cas de $2$ forces

Étudions le cas d’une corde $\text{C}$ de masse négligeable, fixée à l’une de ses extrémités au sol $\text{S}$, et sur laquelle une personne $\text{P}$ exerce une traction. Considérons que la corde est au repos.

  • de norme identique ;
  • portées par la même direction ;
  • de sens opposés.

Cas de $3$ forces

Étudions maintenant le cas d’un télescope $\text{T}$ :

  • articulé en $A$ avec le sol $\text{S}$ ;
  • soutenu en $B$ par un vérin $\text{V}$ (de masse négligeable) ;
  • soumis à son poids en $G$.

  • La force exercée par le sol sur le télescope est indéterminée a priori.

Mais, si nous appliquons le PFS au système « télescope », nous obtenons, en un point $I$ :

Graphe de structure

Comme nous venons de le voir, des stratégies différentes de résolution de problème peuvent être utilisées, selon que le système est soumis à $2$ forces, $3$, ou plus.

  • Aussi, il est intéressant de tracer le graphe de structure du problème afin de repérer les forces agissant sur chaque partie du problème.

Dans un graphe de structure, on représente :

  • chaque élément par un cercle ;
  • chaque liaison ou contact par un trait, en indiquant le point où s’applique la force (pivot).

Ensuite, on indique sur chaque corps les actions extérieures non négligeables (le poids, par exemple).

Interprétation

Ce graphique permet de faire des choix quant à la sélection de la partie à isoler et donc du système à étudier.

  • Par exemple, choisissons d’abord d’isoler le système « vérin ».

On n’isole jamais le bâti. En effet, le bâti étant le référentiel galiléen, à l’échelle du système industriel étudié, il est très difficile de connaître les actions qui s’exercent sur celui-ci.

  • Les données du problème permettront d’éliminer suffisamment d'inconnues pour pouvoir résoudre le système d’équations et définir l’ensemble des forces.

Conclusion :

Tout au long de cette partie, nous avons étudié, au moyen d’outils mathématiques puissants, les forces qui s’exercent sur des systèmes au repos, pour finalement découvrir le principe fondamental de la statique.

Ainsi, forts de ces connaissances, nous comprenons mieux comment les ingénieurs conçoivent les structures qu’ils imaginent, trouvant le meilleur équilibre entre contraintes physiques extérieures – et donc obligation de sécurité – et budgétaires.
En connaissant l’ensemble des actions qui s’exercent sur un système, ils peuvent le dimensionner de manière raisonnable.
